Once again the worst of the weather held off enabling Brackenspa's annual Open Day to be an allround success. We had the pleasure of opening our doors to over 80 people, many of whom had travelled from other counties including Cambridgeshire, Yorkshire, Heartfordshire and Norfolk.
The six stallions standing at the stud were all on show to the public, along with 2009 foals, yearlings and 2 yr. olds.
Along with the stallions being shown in hand the new 2009 DVDs were on show in the stallion barn for people to view at their leisure. We were very pleased with the response from many of our visitors on how our two 4 yr old stallions had developed over the winter.
Over the road from the stallion yard, Roger Lee from Tower Equine Fertility and Gibson and Lee veterinary practice, was on hand to welcome and inform mare owners and members of the public whom had an interest in all aspects of Artificial Insemination and general breeding. Roger's demonstrations seemed to captivate his audience and raised lots of in depth questions.
New for this year, Brackenspa was pleased to be able to invite Annie Wright (www.anniewrightchiro.co.uk), a local chiropractor to provide a demonstration of her techniques on Athen's Abercadabra. Annie has a keen interest not only in general health and sports related injuries in horses and humans, but is also very keen on how fertility in both mares and stallions can be effected by discomfort in both the muscular and skeletal structures. This demonstration proved very interesting and informative and we would like to thank Annie for taking the time to come and spend the day with us.
Brackenspa Stud would like to thank all that helped and supported them on the open day and wish everyone a successful 2009 breeding season.
