News 2013

Another busy year for us here at Brackenspa Stud.

The time has come for our annual update, the stud season is well over, foals are weaned and we are of course already looking into 2014.

Our open day in March wasn't as succesful as normal due to the crazy amount of snow that managed to fall on the only day in March!!  However we still went ahead and had some visitors.  The stallions and staff put on  super performance beig kept warm by the bacon butties provided by the burger van! A big thank you to all that braved the weather to join us that day.

Onwards to the stud season where we had a huge number of mares through the stocks with a super success rate of over 80% of mares scanned in foal.  We saw some with twins as is usual but also a few wih triplets.  We have had semen from all over the world as well as many mares in to use our resident stallions.

Foaling went well and all foals arrived safely with minimum veterinary intervention.  But by far the most exciting birth of the year was Joseph David Lister, born on 22nd October weighing 8lb 5oz.  I am sure it won't be long until Joseph is ready for his own pony!

We have had many youngsters in to break again this year.  Some of which are by our residents stallions, but also we have had the pleasure of breaking, an andulucia, a lusitano and two fresians.  Some of these youngsters have been sold and gone onto pastures new, others have gone back to their owners and some having a well deserved rest.

Our stallions have also had a busy year, not only covering mares but also competing.  Dunhill Desert Storm made his debut out eventing, showing great boldness and enthusiasm and he looks like he has a huge eventing career ahead of him.  This young stalliion is looking very exciting.  Crowns Wonder Pearl as always hugely consitent on the eventing field, having just moved up to novice at his last event, he just loves it!  Athens Mumbo Jumbo also enjoying his eventing ad is looking forward to a winters hunting.  Ameretto M combinig both dressage and eventing, having qualified for the area festival at novice and elementary and gaining his double clears in the showjumping ring.  Our dressage stallions are slightly on hold due to having two injured riders, but they should be back in action in no time, with Sartors Sniper, who looks an exciting prospect ready to head out.

We had the pleasure of inviting the new studbook Breeders Elite here to grade three of the boys. And we are happy to say that Crows Wonder Pearl, Dunhill Desert Storm and Sartors Sniper are all licensed with them.

We had one of our mares graded into the Oldenburg stud book and five foals presented at the BEF futurity, all successfully gaining first and higher first premiums.

A big thank you to all our clients, staff, Tower Equine, our farrier Lee Allen ad everyone else that has made another yr successful.

Looking forward to seeing clients old and new in 2014
